Does your mental health really affect your skin?
Mental health sometimes affects us more than we know. It can paralyze us from doing the things we love and enjoy. And often times we don't know we're dealing with an issue until it's too late. Sometimes with the skin that "too late" feeling comes when a pimple pops up or dry patches. Learn some ways mental health could be affecting your skin.
#1 Acne
Acne is caused by inflammation, and knowing that stress and depression can cause inflammation as well. Let's just say that a match made in heaven for bacteria to thrive and all types of dirt and grime. Making it a playground for breakouts.
#2 Eczema
Cortisol (your body's alarm system) can be the cause of inflammation in the skin that causes you to not produce hyaluronic acid (your body's natural moisturizer). Which leads to serve dry skin, eczema and annoying bumps.
#3 Premature aging
When your cristol is high, a lot of things come to a halt in the body, including your anti-aging hormone. And when we think about these anti-aging products that are on shelves, they can't help if our body is rejecting the very thing its produces naturally.
What is the key to not allowing your mental health to destroy your skin? Relaxing! It's imperative that you understand your body can not function in a high stress environment. You can increase your water intake, new clothes, new skincare regimen, whatever! But if your body is operating in flight or fight mode, you stand no chance in getting better.
